Mozilla Thunderbird Email Account Setup
Step by step how to set up an email account in Mozilla Thunderbird email client.
If you don't already have Thunderbird you can get it here - Download Mozilla Thunderbird
Before you get going, make sure you know your email address along with the following information. (You may need to contact your ISP, Internet Service Provider, to get it)
Information about the e-mail servers:
- The type of e-mail server you use: POP3 (most e-mail accounts), HTTP (such as Hotmail), or IMAP
- The name of the incoming e-mail server
- For POP3 and IMAP servers, the name of the outgoing e-mail server (generally SMTP)
Information about your account:
- Your account name and password
Getting Started
Start Thunderbird
Move your curser along the toolbar to "tools", then scroll down to "Account Settings".
In the bottom right corner of the window click "Add Account".
Select "Email Account". Click "Next".
In the first box type your name as you wish it to be displayed on emails to others and your email address into the second box. Click "Next".
Select either "POP" or "IMAP" depending on the information your ISP has supplied. Click "Next".
Type your username into the provided box. Click "Next".
Choose a name for the account you just created (this can be anything you like). Click "Next".
Check that all the settings are correct, then click "Finish"
Click the "Get Mail" button in the top right corner of Thunderbird.
When the prompt appears type your type your password into the box, if you don't wish to type your password in every time you check your email make sure you tick the little box below the password.
