Adding a Product to Your Catalogue
A step by step guide on adding a product to your Virtuemart catalogue.
Step 1.
Log into the front end of your website, after you've logged in a link labelled "Admin" should appear on the main menu of your site, click that link.
Step 2.
The page will now load up the back end of "Virtuemart", on the menu down the left side of the screen click "Products" the menu will expand to show various options, click "Add Product".
Step 3.
Field Name | Description |
| SKU | Stock Keeping Unit, if you don't have one just put any number here, the field is compulsory. |
| Name | The name of the product |
| URL | A URL to be displayed with the product, usually a link to the manufacturer. |
| Vendor | Who the seller is, this is usually filled in already. |
| Manufacturer | Select a manufacturer if you have set one up |
| Categories | Select which categories you wish the product to show up in, to select more than 1 hold the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard |
| Product Price(Net) | Pre-tax price. |
| Product Price(Gross) | Price with tax added. |
| VAT Id | Value added tax (VAT), or goods and services tax (GST). |
| Discount Type | |
| Discounted price | The price once discounted, this overrides the discount type. |
| Short Description | Text to be displayed on the category pages. |
| Product Description | Text to be displayed on the products information page. |
Step 4.
Along the top of the window find the button labeled "Product Images", click it.
Click the "Browse" button next to the box labeled "Full Image", find the image you want to use for the product and press ok.
Select "Auto-Create Thumbnail?", with this selected it will automatically create a thumbnail image by resizing the image you selected previously.
In the top right hand corner of the window click the button labeled "Save", the product is now in your catalogue.
